PhD position
Health@Work (3 years)

The PhD project „Effectiveness study of individual and organizational stress management interventions at work“ supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF) is based on a large-scale, longitudinal organizational intervention study, which has been finished by the end of last year. Besides the paper-based dissertation, the PhD candidate will be part of the PhD program Health@Work, supported by the SNF, offering various courses in the field.

Tasks:

Support of the conceptualization, implementation and analysis of ongoing projects
Data collection, analysis and interpretation
Literature search
Writing scientific publications, conference contributions
Support of the development and conduction of teaching courses

Requirements:

Masters degree in social sciences, preferred (Work & Organizational-, Applied-Health) Psychology or Economics
Pronounced interest and ideally basic knowledge in the field of work and health
Experiences in planning and implementing empirical research (and publishing)
Knowledge of quantitative research methods, especially of longitudinal data analysis
Proficient English language skills

The central aim of the project „Volunteering as a psychosocial resource concerning work-life balance and health“ supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation is to investigate whether and how volunteering is associated with the balance between different life domains as well as with health and well-being in general.

Your responsibilities within this project will include the preparation and development of the measuring tool, the recruitment of the participants, the data gathering and analyses, and the dissemination of the findings (conferences contributions, scientific articles). Besides you will be actively involved in a research group which investigates work, society, health, and organizational change. Moreover, you will have the opportunity to participate in the PhD program Health@Work which is supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation.

Requirements:

Masters degree in social sciences (preferred: Psychology or Sociology)

Αυτά είναι κάποια από τα ερωτήματα που φιλοδοξεί να απαντήσει το βιβλίο αυτό που έχει ως αντικείμενο την ανθρώπινη συμπεριφορά στον εργασιακό χώρο. Η μελέτη της ανθρώπινης συμπεριφοράς που είναι και το αντικείμενο της οργανωσιακής ψυχολογίας και συμπεριφοράς είναι απαραίτητη για την επιτυχία των επιχειρήσεων αφού είναι πλέον σαφές ότι μια επιχείρηση διαφοροποιείται από τους ανταγωνιστές της και είναι επιτυχημένη εξαιτίας του ανθρώπινου δυναμικού της.

Διεθνής Έρευνα Μεθόδων Επιλογής Προσωπικού - Organizational Hiring Practices Survey

Πρινμια δεκαετία περίπου, ερευνητές από την SHL καιτο Michigan State University συνεργάστηκαν για τηδιεξαγωγή μιας διεθνούς έρευνας αναφορικά με τις πρακτικές επιλογής προσωπικούπου ακολουθούν κατά τόπους οι επιχειρήσεις. Το Michigan State University διεξάγει και πάλι αυτή την έρευνα σε 15γλώσσες με στόχο να συγκεντρώσει πληροφορίες για την χρήση των μεθόδων (test)αξιολόγησης στην επιλογή προσωπικού.

Οιυπεύθυνοι της έρευνας ζήτησαν την βοήθεια του Εργαστηρίου Οργανωσιακής Συμπεριφοράςτου Οικονομικού Παν/μίου Αθηνών για την συλλογή των στοιχείων. Είναι σημαντικόσε αυτή την έρευνα να υπάρχουν επαρκή στοιχεία/πληροφορίες από την Ελλάδα,προκειμένου να έχουμε μια ακριβή εικόνα της χρήσης των μεθόδων επιλογήςσυγκριτικά με άλλες χώρες. Στην πρώτη έρευνα είχαν συμμετάσχει μόλις 27Ελληνικές επιχειρήσεις!!!!

Το Εργαστήριο Οργανωσιακής Συμπεριφοράς και Ηγεσίας του Οικονομικού Παν/μίου Αθηνών (CROB-L) σε συνεργασία με τον Σύνδεσμο Στελεχών Διοίκησης Ανθρώπινου Δυναμικού Ελλάδας (ΣΔΑΔΕ) και το Ελληνικό Ινστιτούτο Μάνατζμεντ Ανθρώπινου Δυναμικού (ΕΙΜΑΔ) της Ελληνικής Εταιρίας Διοίκησης Επιχειρήσεων πραγματοποιεί έρευνα με θέμα τη χρήση αλλά και τα κριτήρια επιλογής των μεθόδων επιλογής προσωπικού που χρησιμοποιούν τα στελέχη και οι σύμβουλοι Ανθρώπινου Δυναμικού στην Ελλάδα.

Με την έρευνα αυτή επιθυμούμε να εξετάσουμε και να καταγράψουμε τη χρήση των διαφορετικών μεθόδων επιλογής για τις διαφορετικές κατηγορίες ανθρώπινου δυναμικού και στη συνέχεια να αξιολογήσουμε τα βασικά κριτήρια βάσει των οποίων τα στελέχη Ανθρώπινου Δυναμικού αποφασίζουν ποιες μεθόδους επιλογής θα χρησιμοποιήσουν με τους υποψηφίους τους. Στόχος μας είναι να εξετάσουμε σε τι βαθμό η οικονομική κρίση έχει επηρεάσει τη χρήση και την επιλογή των μεθόδων επιλογής προσωπικού.

Η παρούσα έρευνα διεξάγεται από τον Ιωάννη Νικολάου, Επίκουρο Καθηγητή Οργανωσιακής Συμπεριφοράς του τμήματος Διοικητικής Επιστήμης και Τεχνολογίας του Οικονομικού Παν/μίου Αθηνών. Εκδήλωση-Συνέδριο στην Προσέλκυση & Επιλογή Προσωπικού

Το Μεταπτυχιακό Πρόγραμμα Σπουδών στην Διοίκηση του Ανθρώπινου Δυναμικού του Οικονομικού Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών(ΟΠΑ) και ο Επίκουρος Καθηγητής Οργανωσιακής Συμπεριφοράς κ. Ιωάννης Νικολάου ανέλαβαν από το European Association of Work & Organizational Psychology (EAWOP) την διοργάνωση του Επιστημονικού Συνεδρίου “EAWOP Small Group Meeting on Selection &Assessment”.

International PhD Competition - Management in the 21st Century

Management in the 21st Century

The School of Management, University of South Australia will host 12 of the top PhD students from around the world to participate in a forum on the future of management in the 21st Century in Adelaide, Australia from 14th - 16th November 2011.

The PhD students will be selected based on a 1,000 word essay in English suitable for publication as a newspaper opinion piece on the topic of management challenges facing the world and how to deal with them.

The School of Management will bring the 12 selected PhD students to Adelaide to participate in a roundtable discussion about their topics. The discussion will be supported by meetings with business leaders, government officials, leading academics from the University of South Australia, and PhD students from the school’s research concentrations. Students will also be given the opportunity to present their essay.

Why Leaders Don't Learn from Success - Harvard Business Review

The annals of business history are full of tales of companies that once dominated their industries but fell into decline. The usual reasons offered—staying too close to existing customers, a myopic focus on short-term financial performance, and an inability to adapt business models to disruptive innovation—don’t fully explain how the leaders who had steered these firms to greatness lost their touch.

In this article we argue that success can breed failure by hindering learning at both the individual and the organizational level. We all know that learning from failure is one of the most important capacities for people and companies to develop. Yet surprisingly, learning from success can present even greater challenges. To illuminate those challenges—and identify approaches for overcoming them—we will draw from our research and from the work of other scholars in the field of behavioral decision making, and focus on three interrelated impediments to learning.

The first is the inclination to make what psychologists call fundamental attribution errors. When we succeed, we’re likely to conclude that our talents and our current model or strategy are the reasons. We also give short shrift to the part that environmental factors and random events may have played.

The second impediment is overconfidence bias: Success increases our self-assurance. Faith in ourselves is a good thing, of course, but too much of it can make us believe we don’t need to change anything.

“Change Recipients’ Reactions to Organizational Change: A 60-Year Review of Quantitative Studies“, by Shaul Oreg of the University of Haifa, Isreal, Maria Vakola of Athens University of Economics and Business, Athens, Greece, and Achilles Armenakis of Auburn University, Alabama, was recently published in the March 2011 issue of the Journal of Applied Behavioral Science. Professor Armenakis has provided a brief reflection on the article:
Who is the target audience for this article?
The target audience for this article is organizational change researchers, in particular, researchers who have focused in their work on explaining employees’ reactions to change. This includes Ph.D. students who might be researching the topic of organizational change for dissertation topics as well as organizational scientists/consultants interested in conducting research for organizational change projects. The information on the 79 quantitative research articles we reviewed can be used to stimulate testable research questions/hypotheses as well as provide guidance in selecting assessment scales and experimental/quasi-experimental designs that have been used in organizational change research.

What inspired you to be interested in this topic?
We were inspired to undertake this research project for two reasons: First, because of our continuing interest in the topic of organizational change. Collectively we have been working in the organizational change field for more than 60 years and we have realized that there is a lack of order and structure in extant literature on the topic. Many quantitative studies on the topic have accumulated, but no organizing scheme has been proposed and the comparison of findings across studies has become difficult. Different terminology has been used by the various researchers without a clear picture of what we already know versus what remains to be explained. Second, the last review of the organizational change literature was published in 1999, and there has never been a 60-year review of the organizational change literature. So the research topic was well overdue. We therefore felt that a broad review, along with an overarching model to help organize previous research and update previous review findings, was called for.
Were there findings that were surprising to you?
We followed an inductive procedure in summarizing each of the 79 articles. Thus, the elements/factors we used to describe each article were modified as we progressed in our analysis. We did not anticipate how long the process was going to take. The length of time was also impacted by the fact that Shaul was in Israel and Ithaca, NY, Maria was in Athens, Greece, and Achilles was in Auburn, AL. We worked on analyzing the articles and writing the manuscript over a period of 4 years and exchanged 1600 emails. Of course, without the internet we could not have completed the research.
Apart from the process, we were quite surprised with the content of our analysis. Given that we were familiar with many of the studies we reviewed, the main surprises came, not from any particular finding, but rather from realizing where the research emphasis has been given, and what topics have been relatively neglected. As an example, it was somewhat surprising that so few studies have explored interactive effects when predicting employees’ reactions to change. Even fewer studies have been designed in which data were collected from more than a single source, a point which substantially weakens the validity of previous findings.
How do you see this study influencing future research and/or practice?
We think organizational scientists/consultants will benefit from having a convenient source to consult in the design of organizational change research projects. We provide detailed descriptions of the variables and measures that have been used in previous work, and classify these variables into broad conceptual categories. We believe this classification system, which is also presented in several of the tables in the manuscript, will provide researchers with a clearer interpretation of the various variables that can be used to explain reactions to change. We hope our summary of the 60 years of quantitative research will encourage future change researchers to increase the level of scientific rigor of their projects.
How does this study fit into your body of work/line of research?
The topic of organizational change is our primary research focus. Completing this project was a logical step in each of our careers since it follows directly from many of the studies we have conducted. It has added to our organizational change knowledge and will allow us to be more creative and effective in directing research projects undertaken by our graduate students.
How did your paper change during the review process?
We acknowledged at the outset that the manuscript would be much longer than the typical manuscript published by behavioral science journals. As we prepared our first draft of the manuscript we realized we had a lot of valuable information but we thought the length was going to be an issue. When we submitted the manuscript to JABS, the editor and the referees were favorable toward it but made excellent suggestions to improve it, like wanting more information, which we already had but did not include in the original submission. We realized this was going to result in an even longer manuscript than we submitted originally, but incorporated this information nevertheless. In addition, the editor and reviewers made several very helpful points that allowed us to expand our discussion of the conceptual implications of our findings. They also made several practical suggestions that helped us reformat the manner in which we presented our data so that it is now clearer and more “user-friendly”.
What, if anything, would you do differently if you could go back and do this study again?
There really is not much we could do differently. This was a very time consuming and complex project for the three of us to undertake. We conducted the typical (and anticipated) coding/recoding process required in summarizing the articles, but each of us agrees it was a worthwhile and enjoyable effort. That said, with additional time, we might have chosen to keep a record of additional information from each of the studies we reviewed. In particular, information about effect sizes in each of the studies could have been useful for conducting meta-analyses of some sub-sections of the articles we reviewed. This, of course, can still be done in a follow-up endeavor.

Παραδοσιακά, οι πολυεθνικές των ΗΠΑ, της Ιαπωνίας, της Γαλλίας, της Βρετανίας και της Γερμανίας συνήθιζαν να στέλνουν «πακέτο» από τη μητέρα εταιρεία και τον αλλοδαπό επικεφαλής μάνατζερ. Σήμερα, όμως, τα πράγματα έχουν αλλάξει. Οι «έξυπνες» πολυεθνικές εταιρείες συνηθίζουν να τοποθετούν διευθύνοντες συμβούλους με εθνικότητες των χωρών στις οποίες επενδύουν - είτε ήδη λειτουργούν τις θυγατρικές τους. Οι λόγοι που συνηγορούν γι’ αυτή την πρακτική είναι πολλοί. Επιπλέον, οι εταιρείες αναγνωρίζουν ότι με την πρακτική αυτή αφενός δεν «ρηχαίνει» η δεξαμενή των υποψηφίων διευθυντών τους, αφετέρου δεν επιδρά αρνητικά στο ηθικό των ντόπιων και ικανών στελεχών της θυγατρικής εταιρείας, αφού δεν προοιωνίζεται ότι η σταδιοδρομία τους προς την κορυφή αργά ή γρήγορα θα «κλαδευτεί» λόγω εθνικότητας.

Ωστόσο, τους λόγους για τους οποίους η Ευρώπη «εκτρέφει» τους μεγάλους παγκόσμιους μάνατζερ, τους έχει τεκμηριώσει ο κ. Karl Moore, καθηγητής Μάνατζμεντ στο Πανεπιστήμιο McGill, και associate fellow στο Templeton College του Oxford University με έκθεσή του ύστερα από πολυετή πολυπολιτισμική μελέτη και συνεργασία του με πολυεθνικές στη Βόρειο Αμερική, στην Ευρωπαϊκή Ενωση και στην Ιαπωνία. Η έκθεση αναφέρει ότι οι μεγάλοι διεθνείς μάνατζερ δεν προέρχονται από τις ΗΠΑ είτε από άλλες χώρες, οικονομικές υπερδυνάμεις.

Κυκλοφόρησε το πρώτο τεύχος του νέου περιοδικού του European Association of Work and Organizational Psychology (EAWOP), Organizational Psychology Review.
Το νέο περιοδικό θα δημοσιεύει review articles και μετα-αναλύσεις οπότε θα είναι πάρα πολύ χρήσιμο για ερευνητές και επαγγελματίες της Οργανωτικής Ψυχολογίας/Συμπεριφοράς και Διοίκησης Ανθρωπίνων Πόρων. Το ακόμα καλύτερο όμως είναι ότι προσφέρεται ΔΩΡΕΑΝ σε όλους μέχρι το 2013. Το μόνο που χρειάζετα είναι να γραφτεί κάποιος στη SAGE που είναι μια αρκετά απλή διαδικασία.

Wall Street Journal Ελληνες οι πιο σκληρά ευρωπαίοι εργαζόμενοι

Στην κατάρριψη των στερεότυπων ότι οι λαοί του ευρωπαϊκού Βορρά είναι πιο εργατικοί από αυτούς του Νότου προχωρεί η Wall Street Journal σε δημοσίευμα της, εστιάζοντας στο παράδειγμα της Ελλάδας.

Ο αρθρογράφος της εφημερίδας Μάθιου Ντάλτον υποστηρίζει ότι η κρίση χρέους στην ζώνη του ευρώ έχει υπογραμμίσει ένα από τα πιο «ανθεκτικά στερεότυπα» της Ευρώπης, αυτό που αφορά στη διάκριση των σκληρά εργαζόμενων βόρειων χώρων, σε σύγκριση με τον τεμπέλικο Νότο. Μάλιστα, όπως υπογραμμίζει, αυτά τα στερεότυπα υπεισήλθαν σε κάποιο βαθμό στο πολιτικό διάλογο της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης για την αντιμετώπιση της κρίσης χρέους.

Second-rates and saboteurs: possible consequences of employee of the month schemes?

As the BPS' newest employee, I'm thinking about how to make a good impression on my peers and managers. Perhaps I could even make it to Employee of the Month! "EOM" schemes are highly popular across companies, and considered by many to be best practice, so I was fascinated to find a paper by Johnson and Dickinson that starts to explore the motivational consequences of such schemes.

The studies described in the article seem to me preliminary, with a small student sample and favouring eyeballing over statistical analysis; I'll just touch on them below. The literature review, however, is a real eye-opener, and reveals how much opportunity there is for investigation of this area, with “no published empirical studies on EOM, even within a variety of disciplines such as psychology, management, and economics." Moreover, there are a number of criticisms of EOM design, including:

* A competitive structure. If everyone performs well this month, there's still only one EOM: it pays to do better than others, not to excel together.
* A winner-takes-all design. Small differences in performance may make the difference between acclaim and... tumbleweed. The pretty good and the mediocre are treated the same: they're invisible.
* A focus on results over methods. Getting things done by bulldozing your workmates could be a way to win the award.
* Criteria that are often vague and not transparent.

Some EOM schemes attempt to 'share the wealth' by ensuring the award revolves around to new individuals. This could however dampen any recognition value it has: "I've performed best this month... except for maybe Janet and Khaled, who already got it." The authors investigate this: in their sample of six students they don't see visible improvements on a dull computer-based processing task after being told they have won a revolving award.

A non-revolving scheme however, can end up with one or several great performers end up hogging the award, leaving the swathe of the 'able middle' unrecognised and unmotivated. Johnson and Dickinson look at this also, in a study where they set up their participants to always come in between 2nd and 5th place behind a named (fictional) "co-worker". Over time, a few of the students tailed off somewhat in performance, but a few others didn't. In my view this research doesn't provide compelling evidence for or against these EOM features, but lays some groundwork for subsequent work: watch this space.

One further risk, deliberately excluded from the research by using fictional teams, is that employees may seek the award via counterproductive work behaviours that could even slip into covert sabotage. If Steve is just one flawless restaurant set-up ahead of me, maybe I'll dawdle the next time he's in charge. This is serious business, and the consequence of EOMs focusing on results over behaviour.

Overall, this paper calls to our attention how shaky the theory and evidence for EOM schemes is, despite their obvious attractions as catchy, memorable, and simple ways to try to recognise employees. Raising the number of awards and a greater focus on behaviours seem supportable steps, but it's also key that organisations look inward to how the schemes are viewed by the employees who participate – or not.

Ο European Association of People Management (EAPM), μέλος του οποίου είναι και ο Σύνδεσμος Διοίκησης Ανθρώπινου Δυναμικού Ελλάδας (ΣΔΑΔΕ) διοργανώνει το ετήσιο συνέδριό του, στο οποίο θα συμμετάσχουν όλα τα κράτη-μέλη του με θέμα: Σύγκλιση: Επανεξετάζοντας τον ρόλο της Διαχείρισης Ανθρώπινου Δυναμικού. Το συνέδριο πραγματοποιείται στην Κων/πολη, 28-30 Σεπτεμβρίου 2011.

Στο πλαίσιο του Συνεδρίου αυτού, θα διεξαχθεί και ο διαγωνισμός Ανθρώπινου Δυναμικού "European HR Awards 2011". Θα βραβευθεί η καλύτερη έκθεση με θέμα το ίδιο με αυτό του συνεδρίου, δηλ. τον τρόπο με τον οποίο συγκλίνουν οι παράγοντες "Ανθρρώπινο Δυναμικό" και "¨Επιχειρηματική Επίδοση"¨, όσον αφορά στην στρατηγική, στους στόχους και στις πρακτικές των επιχειρήσεων. Στην έκθεση ζητείται να αναλυθούν παράγοντες όπως οι διαδικασίες διαχείρισης Ανθρώπινου Δυναμικού, η οργανωτική ανάπτυξη, η διαχείριση του brand της εταιρείας, η ψυχολογία, η κοινωνιολογία, κλπ. Στον διαγωνισμό μπορούν να λάβουν μέρος μεμονωμένα άτομα ή ομάδες, στελέχη του χώρου της Διοίκησης Ανθρώπινου Δυναμικού ή φοιτητές μεταπτυχιακών προγραμμάτων HRM.

Οι εκθέσεις θα κριθούν καταρχήν στην Ελλάδα από επιτροπή η οποία θα αποτελείται από επαγγελματίες και μέλη της ακαδημαϊκής κοινότητας του HR (Ι. Νικολάου, ΔΕΤ-ΟΠΑ, Λ. Παναγιωτοπούλου, Μ&Ε, ΟΠΑ). Οι καλύτερες πέντε εκθέσεις που θα επιλεγούν από την επιτροπή θα αποτελέσουν και θέμα παρουσίασης στο HR Forum 2011 που θα πραγματοποιηθεί τον Απρίλιο του 2011. Στο συνέδριο θα ανακοινωθεί και ο νικητής ή η νικήτρια ομάδα του ελληνικού διαγωνισμού. Στη συνέχεια, η νικήτρια έκθεση από την πλευρά της Ελλάδας, θα αποσταλεί στον ΕΑΡΜ όπου θα διαγωνιστεί µε τις εκθέσεις των υπόλοιπων κρατών. Η κριτική επιτροπή του Συνεδρίου θα επιλέξει τις πέντε καλύτερες εκθέσεις από το σύνολο των εκθέσεων που έχουν αποσταλεί από τους Ευρωπαϊκούς συνδέσµους και θα βρaβεύσει την καλύτερη. Η τελετή βράβευσης θα πραγµατοποιηθεί στην διάρκεια του συνεδρίου του ΕΑPM στην Κωνσταντινούπολη. Το βραβείο για τον νικητή ή την οµάδα (η οµάδα εκπροσωπείται από έναν εκπρόσωπο) είναι µία πρόσκληση για το συνέδριο της Κωνσταντινούπολης τον Σεπτέµβριο του 2011 και δωρεάν διαµονή καθ όλη τη διάρκεια του συνεδρίου η οποία θα καλυφθεί από την χώρα στην οποία διοργανώνεται το Συνέδριο (συγκεκριµένα για το 2011 από τον Σύνδεσµο ΗR Τουρκίας ). Ο ΣΔΑΔΕ από την δική του µεριά θα καλύψει το κόστος των µετακινήσεων.

Αναζήτηση Εργασίας: Συμπεριφορές, Αποτελέσματα & Συναισθήματα

Το συνεχώς μεταβαλλόμενο μακροοικονομικό πλαίσιο της πρώτης δεκαετίας του 21ου αιώνα επέφερε σημαντικές αλλαγές όχι μόνο στη δομή και λειτουργία των επιχειρήσεων αλλά και στην ευμετάβλητη αγορά εργασίας εντός της οποίας διαμορφώνονται τα χαρακτηριστικά της σύγχρονης εργασιακής ζωής του ατόμου.

Με την επαγγελματική αποκατάσταση να αποτελεί μία από τις σημαντικότερες αξίες στη ζωή του ανθρώπου, η μη εκπλήρωση της ενδέχεται να επιφέρει αρνητικές επιπτώσεις στην ψυχική υγεία του ατόμου και το αντίθετο. Η προσωπικότητα του υποψήφιου και ο τρόπος με τον οποίο προσεγγίζει την πρόκληση της εξεύρεσης εργασίας, παίζουν καθοριστικό ρόλο στο πώς διαμορφώνεται η συναισθηματική και ψυχολογική του κατάσταση κατά την προσπάθεια πραγμάτωσης των επαγγελματικών επιδιώξεών του.

Προκειμένου να εξετάσουμε το ρόλο της προσωπικότητας και τις συνέπειες των διαφορετικών τρόπων αναζήτησης εργασίας στη συναισθηματική και ψυχολογική κατάσταση των υποψηφίων, δημιουργήσαμε δύο ξεχωριστά ερευνητικά μοντέλα. Με τη χρήση δομημένου ερωτηματολογίου πραγματοποιήσαμε έρευνα σε πρόσφατα αποφοίτους ΑΕΙ ή ΤΕΙ και μεταπτυχιακών προγραμμάτων σπουδών που την περίοδο Σεπτεμβρίου-Νοεμβρίου 2009 αναζητούσαν εργασία. Οι 149 συμμετέχοντες αρχικά κλήθηκαν να απαντήσουν σε ερωτήσεις αναφορικά με προσωπικά χαρακτηριστικά που σχετίζονται με την αναζήτηση εργασίας.

Η συναισθηματική νοημοσύνη στο ζενίθ της, μετά τα 60

Η ικανότητα των ανθρώπων να συναισθάνονται και να καταλαβαίνουν την ψυχική κατάσταση των άλλων, κορυφώνεται μετά την ηλικία των 60 ετών. Οι μεγαλύτερες γενιές έχουν αυξημένη «συναισθηματική νοημοσύνη» σε σχέση με τις νεότερες, σύμφωνα με δύο νέες αμερικανικές επιστημονικές έρευνες.

Οι ερευνητές, με επικεφαλής τον καθηγητή ψυχολογίας Ρόμπερτ Λέβενσον του πανεπιστημίου της Καλιφόρνιας-Μπέρκλεϊ, που δημοσίευσαν τη σχετική μελέτη στο περιοδικό Psychology and Aging, σύμφωνα με τη βρετανική Telegraph, συμπέραναν ότι οι ηλικιωμένοι σημειώνουν καλύτερα ποσοστά σε σχέση με τους νεότερους, στο να βλέπουν τη θετική πλευρά των πραγμάτων, ακόμα και των αρνητικών καταστάσεων, ενώ όσο γερνάνε, αναπτύσσουν μεγαλύτερη ικανότητα να νοιάζονται για τους γύρω τους. "Όλο και περισσότερο, φαίνεται πως το νόημα στην ύστερη φάση της ζωής επικεντρώνεται στις κοινωνικές σχέσεις και στη φροντίδα προς και από τους άλλους. Η εξέλιξη φαίνεται πως έχει προσαρμόσει τα νευρικά μας συστήματα, καθώς γερνάμε, με τρόπους που είναι οι πιο κατάλληλοι για αυτές τις διαπροσωπικές και συμπονετικές δραστηριότητες", εξήγησε ο Ρ. Λέβενσον.

EAWOP Small Group Meeting “Selection and assessment in Europe: Recent Trends and challenges/advances”

This meeting will be a small scale workshop following the established tradition of similar EAWOP small group meetings. We plan a small-scale workshop over three days with approximately 25-30 participants and plenty of time for discussion. We hope to attract new and on-going research on the selection and assessment topics in order to explore mutual interest, and build collaborative networks between selection researchers across Europe. Special attention will be provided to PhD students presenting their early research, with the opportunity to interact with one of the experienced EAWOP members participating in the SGM.

100 euros (including welcome party, coffee breaks, two lunches and the conference dinner). Doctoral students can benefit of a special fee of 50 euros. Participation in the SGM is limited to 30 participants. Travel and accommodation costs will have to be covered by participants.

Abstracts of papers (max. 500 words) should be submitted by January 15^th of 2011 through the SGM’s website (https://eawopsgm.wordpress.com/). After the review process each author will be notified about the acceptance of the submitted abstract, before the end of February 2011. Full papers must be submitted before 1^st of June 2011. Maximum paper length: 5.000 words (tables, figures and references not included). Papers will be made available on the SGM website for all participants, so that all information can be studied before the small group meeting takes place.

The outcomes of the meeting will appear in the form of a position paper submitted to EJWOP. In addition, the organizers seek to publish selected papers (that can also be revised after the discussion on the conference) in a special issue of an academic journal.

Greece: Funding Opportunities for Postdoctoral Research

The Greek Ministry of Education, Lifelong Learning and Religious Affairs invites all interested beneficiaries to submit proposal summaries for their inclusion in the Action "Support of Postdoctoral Researchers".

The aim of this Action is to facilitate the acquirement of new research skills by Postdoctoral Researchers (PR) that will promote their career development in any field and/or help them restart their careers after a leave of absence (but no more than seven (7) years following their doctorate conferment date). Emphasis will be given to the support of new scientists at the beginning of their career. The duration of the research projects should range from 24 to 36 months. Each candidate can submit only one (1) research proposal.
The total public cost of the present call is 30.000.000€ and it is co-financed by the ESF (European Social Fund). The maximum budget for each project is 150.000€. At least 60% of the total budget should be related to costs pertaining to activities undertaken by the PR and should include a monthly net allowance of 1.600€, subject to cost-of-living adjustments for different countries.
The potential beneficiaries of this call must be either:
a) Greek or foreign nationals that have acquired their doctorate from a non-Greek University. These researchers should undertake their research in a University/Research Institution within Greece
or
b) Greek nationals that have acquired their doctorate from a Greek University. These researchers may undertake their research in a University/Research Institution either in Greece or abroad. In the first case the host Institution should differ from the University where the candidate PR obtained his/her doctorate and the PR should collaborate with a scientist other than his/her PhD supervisor. In the second case the PR should undertake the first 2/3 of his/her research in a University/Research Institution outside Greece and the final 1/3 in a University/Research Institution within Greece.
A two-stage submission procedure will be followed. Please, note that at this stage (i.e. 1st stage) the PRs are not required to have established cooperation with the host Institution. They only need to indicate where (University/Research Institution) and with whom (Faculty member or Research Scientist of a public Research Institution that holds a PhD degree) they would like to cooperate. If a proposal is positively assessed during the evaluation of summaries (1st stage), the respective PR will be asked to submit a full proposal (2nd stage) as well as contact the proposed host Institution to ensure collaboration.
All summaries (as well as the full proposals at the 2nd evaluation stage) will be reviewed by international experts. Further information for the 2nd submission stage will become available in the near future.

Η Γενική Γραμματεία Έρευνας και Τεχνολογίας (ΓΓΕΤ) ανακοίνωσε την έναρξη υποβολής προτάσεων για την διεξαγωγή Μετα-διδακτορικής Έρευνας (ΜΕ) σε ΑΕΙ/ΤΕΙ.

Στο πλαίσιο της Δράσης θα χρηματοδοτηθούν (ΜΕ) από την Ελλάδα ή το εξωτερικό για την εκπόνηση ερευνητικού έργου, το οποίο μπορεί να αφορά σε οποιαδήποτε περιοχή της σύγχρονης έρευνας και θα έχει διάρκεια 24 - 36 μήνες. Το έργο θα υλοποιηθεί σε Ίδρυμα ανώτατης εκπαίδευσης (ΑΕΙ/ΤΕΙ), στην ΑΣΠΑΙΤΕ ή ερευνητικό φορέα της χώρας (Φορείς Υποδοχής/Δικαιούχοι) και για κάθε πρόταση θα ορισθεί Επιστημονικός Υπεύθυνος/η (ΕΥ), ο/η οποίος/α θα προέρχεται από το επιστημονικό προσωπικό του Φορέα Υποδοχής.

Κατά την ημερομηνία υποβολής της πρότασης δεν θα πρέπει να έχει παρέλθει χρονικό διάστημα μεγαλύτερο των 10 ετών από την ημερομηνία αναγόρευσης του/της υποψήφιου/ας (ΜΕ) σε διδάκτορα. Επίσης οι άνδρες (ΜΕ) θα πρέπει να έχουν εκπληρώσει τις στρατιωτικές τους υποχρεώσεις ή να έχουν νόμιμα απαλλαγεί (όπου απαιτείται ανάλογα με τη χώρα προέλευσης του ΜΕ).

Ο ανώτατος προϋπολογισμός κάθε ερευνητικού έργου θα ανέρχεται στα 150.000€. Η ελάχιστη μηνιαία απόζημίωση (καθαρές αποδοχές) του μεταδιδακτορικού ερευνητή θα είναι τουλάχιστον 1600€.

Οι προτάσεις υποβάλλονται μέχρι την 20/11/2010 στα αγγλικά.

Το CROB-L ενδιαφέρεται να υποβάλλει προτάσεις διεξαγωγής ΜΕ στην παραπάνω πρόταση.

Εάν υπάρχουν κάτοχοι διδακτορικού διπλώματος σε συναφή αντικείμενα με αυτά που πραγματεύεται το εργαστήριο και οι οποίοι θα ενδιαφέρονταν να λάβουν μέρος παρακολούνται όπως στείλουν το αναλυτικό βιογραφικό τους σημείωμα δηλώνοντας το ενδιαφέρον τους στον Ιωάννη Νικολάου (inikol@aueb.gr).

ΕΡΕΥΝΑ: Τα εργαλεία Κοινωνικής Δικτύωσης στην Ελλάδα

Τα τελευταία χρόνια τόσο στην Ελλάδα όσο και στο εξωτερικό έχουμε δει μια έκρηξη στην χρήση του Internet και των ιστοσελίδων κοινωνικής δικτύωσης (π.χ. LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Blogs, κλπ). Η παρούσα έρευνα θα προσπαθήσει να καταγράψει, για πρώτη φορά στην Ελλάδα, τη χρήση και την αποτελεσματικότητα αυτών των ιστοσελίδων, από την σκοπιά της Διοίκησης Ανθρωπίνων Πόρων.

Πιο συγκεκριμένα ο Σύνδεσμος Διοίκησης Ανθρώπινου Δυναμικού Ελλάδας (ΣΔΑΔΕ) και το Εργαστήριο Οργανωσιακής Συμπεριφοράς και Ηγεσίας (CROB-L) του Οικονομικού Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών, στα πλαίσια της ευρύτερης συνεργασίας τους, αποφάσισαν την από κοινού διεξαγωγή της παρούσης έρευνας με στόχο την αποτύπωση των λόγων και τρόπων χρήσης των ιστοσελίδων κοινωνικής δικτύωσης αλλά και της αποτελεσματικότητας τους στην εξεύρεση και αναζήτηση εργασίας, τόσο από τα στελέχη του Ανθρώπινου Δυναμικού όσο και από τους εργαζόμενους ή υποψήφιους για εργασία.

Για τον σκοπό αυτό έχουμε δημιουργήσει δύο ξεχωριστές έρευνες: Η πρώτη απευθύνεται σε στελέχη του Ανθρώπινου Δυναμικού που χρησιμοποιούν το Internet και τις ιστοσελίδες κοινωνικής δικτύωσης ως εργαλεία της εργασίας τους κυρίως για την εξεύρεση και επιλογή προσωπικού, ενώ η δεύτερη απευθύνεται σε εργαζόμενους-υποψήφιους οι οποίοι τα χρησιμοποιούν στα πλαίσια κοινωνικής δικτύωσης ή/και αναζήτησης εργασίας. Δεν θα χρειαστείτε περισσότερο από 15-20 λεπτά για την συμπλήρωση του on-line ερωτηματολογίου.

"I've always envied early risers, those who spring out of bed at the crack of dawn, ready, it seems, to take on the world. Of course their early vitality could be short-lived. Morning friskiness gives the impression of a positive nature but are 'larks' really more proactive people than 'owls'?

Yes, according to Christoph Randler who surveyed 367 student participants and found a correlation between their self-reported 'morningness' (as revealed by their answers to questions about how easy they find it to get up in the morning and how alert they feel) and their self-reported proactivity (measured by their agreement with statements like 'I spend time identifying long-range goals for myself' and 'I feel responsible for my own life'). The correlation was relatively weak (.44, where 1 would be a perfect match) but was statistically significant.

Randler also found proactivity to be (inversely) correlated, though to a lesser extent than morningness, with so-called 'social jetlag'. This is caused by the mismatch between one's biological time-keeping and the demands of social time, as betrayed by the difference in students' choice of rise times between weekdays and weekends."

But now new research suggests serious potential pitfalls for women in those policies, hazards stemming from persistent misconceptions about women's susceptibility to conflicts between their family commitments and workplace responsibilities.

A study in the current issue of The Academy of Management Journal reveals that bosses generally perceive women workers to have more family-work conflict than men, even though this isn't the case. The programme refers to AEI & Polytechnic graduates, as well as executives, to continue their studies on post-graduate level for the academic year beginning 2010. The programme funds tuition fees for masters programmes and does not include professional qualifications nor Ph.D.s.

Οι συνήθειες που κάθε άνθρωπος αναπτύσσει στην ζωή του σε σχέση με το χρήμα -πόσο θα το αποταμιεύει ή θα το σπαταλά, τι είδους επενδύσεις θα κάνει κλπ- δεν εξαρτώνται τόσο από την προσωπική γνώση και εμπειρία του στα οικονομικά θέματα, όσο με άλλα μονιμότερα χαρακτηριστικά της προσωπικότητάς του και κυρίως με το κατά πόσο είναι παρορμητικός.

Μια νέα βρετανική έρευνα επιστημόνων από το Πανεπιστημιακό Κολλέγιο του Λονδίνου (University College London), υπό τον δρα Στάιαν Ράιμερς, η οποία δημοσιεύτηκε στο περιοδικό "Personality and Individual Differences" (Προσωπικότητα και Ατομικές Διαφορές), διαπίστωσε ότι η αφέλεια και η ευπιστία κάποιου στα οικονομικά ζητήματα συνδέεται στενά με άλλες παρορμητικές συμπεριφορές του, όπως η βουλιμία, το κάπνισμα και η… απιστία.

Το Εργαστήριο Οργανωσιακής Συμπεριφοράς και Ηγεσίας του Οικονομικού Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών σας προσκαλεί να συμμετάσχετε σε επιστημονική έρευνα που διεξάγεται υπό την αιγίδα του Οικονομικού Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών.
Στόχος της έρευνας είναι η διερεύνηση του τρόπου που οι ομάδες εργάζονται αποτελεσματικά μέσα σε μια επιχείρηση και των συνθηκών που επιτρέπουν στις ομάδες να παράγουν καινοτόμες ιδέες. Η καινοτομία, απαραίτητο συστατικό για την επιτυχία μιας επιχείρησης, αναφέρεται στην σκόπιμη εισαγωγή και εφαρμογή μέσα σε ένα επάγγελμα, σε μια ομάδα, ή σε μια επιχείρηση ιδεών, μεθόδων, προϊόντων, ή διαδικασιών, που είναι καινούργια για το επάγγελμα, την ομάδα ή την επιχείρηση, και έχουν σχεδιαστεί προκειμένου να ωφελήσουν το επάγγελμα, την ομάδα ή την επιχείρηση.

CROB-L at the Academy of Management Conference

Μέλη του CROB-L θα παραβρεθούν και θα παρουσιάσουν για άλλη μια φορά εργασίες τους στο μεγαλύτερο επιστημονικό συνέδριο στο χώρο της Διοίκησης Επιχειρήσεων στον κόσμο, το Academy of Management Conference, το οποίο διεξάγεται 7-11 Αυγούστου 2009 στο Σικάγο, ΗΠΑ. Στο συνέδριο φέτος συμμετέχουν πάνω από 8000 συμμετέχοντες από 75 χώρες.

Μεγάλη επιτυχία για το εργαστήριο αποτελεί το γεγονός ότι το άρθρο των Kostopoulos, K., & Bozionelos, N., & Prastakos, G. (2009). "Team learning activities and team effectiveness: The role of psychological safety and task conflict" επιλέχθηκε μεταξύ των κορυφαίων άρθρων (best papers) που θα παρουσιαστούν. Η επιλογή βασίζεται σε διαγωνισμό δύο "γύρων" μέσω των οποίων επιλέγονται μόνο τα κορυφαία (μεθοδολογικά και από άποψης συμβολής στη γνώση) από τα περίπου 1,500 εξαίρετης ποιότητας άρθρων που έγιναν αποδεκτά και θα παρουσιαστούν στο Συνέδριο.
